Veronica’s Favorite Places Around the Web
Writer’s Carnival is a wonderful gathering place for writers of all genres. It’s a combination of review site and social media. Writers post their writing for review and other writers review it and offer helpful suggestions. It’s a great way to join a writing community without feeling pressured or like you’re in over head. There are weekly challenges to keep your writing fresh and regular opportunities for publication in Reader’s Carnival. I publish there regularly, as do many other very talented writers, so it’s a good place to see poems and stories that you may not see anywhere else. There’s a small fee for upgraded membership, and I mean small (like about the cost of a Starbucks coffer per month), but it’s worth it. Trust me.
Writing.Com is also a writer’s community site, but it’s huge, much bigger and more intimating than Writer’s Carnival. I don’t publish there, at least not yet, but I love going there to read. There are more stories and poems to read than you’ll ever be able to finish, which makes it a great place for inspiration. One of these days when I have the time (Hahahaha) I hope to start participating in this community more. Oh! If you’re a fan of writing contests, you’ll find at least a hundred of them. Like Writer’s Carnival, you can sign up for a free account and/or pay a fee for an upgraded account that gives you more access.
Writer’s Market has links to thousands of journals, magazines, book publishers, and agents to help you find a place to sell your work. It’s a subscription-based service, but it’s worth every penny if you are serious about getting your writing out there for the world to see, and if you want to make any money at it.
Keep coming back! I’ll be adding to this list constantly.
